FAQ for Bridal Gown Shopping

Why buy from Crystal's Bridal?

We are a boutique style store. We carry more exclusive designer gowns and accessories. Our consultants are trained and knowledgable in the fashion aspects of bridal. Customer service is our most important priority as we care about our clients and what gowns they select.

What is the latest time I can order a wedding gown?

We recommend no later than 6 months. Why do you ask does it take that long? This is a made to order product. There are seamstresses that hand cut the fabric and sew on the detail work by hand.

We see internet forums that have people saying 'I got my gown in 3 months so you have plenty of time to order'. It's definitely possible to get a gown that just happened to be destined for inventory as designers do inventory a few of the most popular/newest styles in the most popular sizes/colors. Thus brides can receive their gown in a shorter time frame. You also have to consider the quality and context of the comments coming from the internet. Someone who ordered a knock off gown online or from a store could have received their gown in a short time frame. When bridal stores turn you away because your timeline is too short. It's not a sales tactic. Not being able to sell you a dress does not make them money!

Who should I bring to my appointment?

We suggest bringing two of the most important people in your life. Whether that be your mother and best friend or best friend and sister. Bringing any more than two people can be overwhelming for a bride as she has too many opinions to consider.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring comfortable undergarments and clothing that's easy to change in and out of.

I see online websites offering wedding gowns at cheap prices.

Our wedding gowns are from authentic designers. Websites claiming they offer certain brandnames by way of pictures may be selling unauthorized replicas of the dress. These 'knock offs' are usually made with lower quality materials, have a poorer fit, little or no crinoline and the detailing will not be the same as the authentic gown. You get what you pay for is pretty much the situation here.

Alterations, how soon and how much money does it cost?

We suggest you book your first alteration appointment 8 weeks before the wedding. It can up to 3 or more alteration appointments until the gown is ready. Usually we recommend our brides to budget $300-$600 for alterations. There are some people that do end up paying less then $300 and there are some people that end up paying more than $600. It all depends on what the bride wants for alterations.

Losing Weight. I'm planning to lose a bit of weight before the wedding and I'm not sure what size I should be ordering.

Wedding dresses are meant to be taken in but not let out. Wedding gown alterations cost more when the gown is let out as it may involve the addition of new materials. There may not be an option of letting out the gown as the gowns detailing or the way the gown is constructed may prohibit this. The safest course of action is to order the gown in the size you are now. Speak to one of our consultants if you have any concerns. In the end it's your decision which size to order. We have seen situations where brides have indeed lost the weight they have targeted and then order the gown at their new size only to see them unfortunately gain some or all of the weight back before their wedding day.

What are my options for a last minute wedding?

You can try to rush order a wedding gown. Unfortunately rush orders involve an additional cost, typically between 15% - 20% more. Keep in mind some designers do not have a rush order option.

Buying off the rack is an option but then you are limited to size, color, condition of the dress as the gowns have been tried on many times.

We can see what is available in stock inventory from the designer. General stock is limited to the most popular/recent styles, common sizes and advertised color.
